Purpose : Purpose of this project is to construct genomic cohort of female Marriage Immigrants and their family in Korea. Diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, respiratory disease and metabolic syndrome frequently occurs to Korean, which are influenced by genetic factors and environmental factor in combination. To explore the influence on those diseases caused by environmental change and influence by the sensitivity of genetic disease. To discover the genetic factor and environmental factor by research themes and to explore the interaction of them.
Methods : To develop a research tool and collect the information where health & disease information, life habit and eating habit can be reflected aiming for the target diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, resipratory disease and metabolic syndrome. To analyze and report the major health information of the subject matter of
research. To collect and submit the specimen of genome (genomic DNA: more than 100ug), serum/plasma (more than 2 ml, respectively) and urine (more than 10 ml), etc. from the subject persons of examination.
Results : The total number of objects was 741, among them 399 were women from Southeast Asia, 206 were their spouses, and 136 were their children. The average age of marriage immigrant women among the cohort was 24.64, which shows 17.13-year age gap on average between them and their spouses. According to the diagnosis of WHO,
3(1.30%) of female immigrants and 10(5.32%) of male spouses were diagnosed as diabete mellitus, 10(4.33%) of female immigrants and 8(6.40%) of male spouses were diagnosed as impaired glucose tolerance, while 36(9.07%) among the female immigrants and 14(6.80%) among the husbands had B-type hepatitis. 225(56.68%) among the women needed to receive a Hepatitis B vaccine injection. As to bone-density, 86(28.11%) of the immigrant women were diagnosed asosteoporosis and osteopenia. In cervical cancer examination, 1 among 218 were diagnosed as cervical dysplasia. Besides, 48(21.8%) were infected with Human Papilloma Virus.
Conclusions : This cohort study includes the in-depth survey, body measurement, examination, etc. among international marriage families, which are increasing drastically, and created the database so as to collect and keep genome resources and thus established the base for DNA study. In addition, the basic data required to clarify the
correlation between environment and genetic modification by concurrently conducting the study on DNAs of immigrants from Southeast Asia who got married and settled down in Korea to investigate the effects on the genes of Koreans.
